PARKER JONES PRESENTS:
TIMESHARES
A PERFORMANCE BY AARON GM
My work is about the agility of movement. Like a conceptual snow globe, the collision of narrative texturing, disruptive subjectivity, adolescent voices, material posturing and expressive resistance become assimilated subjects. These subjects then become subjugated within the performative.
"Beaches P.H., Beaches C.C.
"Raphael Escondido flew the crest of deliberately organized social optimism between cakes and freole twinkle tier offerings, sooo the thought and meyer insistence of a vacation seemed possible and presented itself as a wonderful causuality and sooo it bistook and was taken and granted, this spot of leisure palooned ta tides the rewind granted and leisure took its tools and began an incommuni-kay. Pastel top, khaki bottom, oversize watch, wrap-around sunglasses, canvas shoes, no socks, mottled cheeks, ball cap--the portrait of a successful American male on vacation being leisurely."
This performance is an attempt to reconcile a place of authenticity in the timeshares of the world, influenced by the California coastal art gallery scene--specifically Carmel and Laguna Beach--and also Fauvism/Expressionism--more specifically the late period of Matisse. The attraction of this mood is analogous to the attraction of an extenstentialist mood and artistically to the spontaneous brushwork and French pictorial organization of The Fauvists. The Fauvists, with their use of arbitrary combinations of bright colors and energetic brushwork, composed a similar type of feeling provided by West Coast natural light found in California coastal towns and eventually commodified by the leisure industry to the creative downfall of retired American men.
